The Devils are looking to sign their best defenceman to a contract extension as he is coming up for RFA status at the end of the year. Offer- 4 years at $3,950,000 Comparables Luke Schenn-$3,600,000 Tyler Myers-$5,500,000 Kristopher Letang-$3,500,000 And even the newly signed Erik Karlsson who was just signed by Sens to 4 year $4,000,000
The Devils organization feels that 3.95 mill is a good price because we feel he is a strong player who will be a leader on the team for years to come, and because we see Karlsson being signed for 4 million (who is clearly the better off the two but not by much) we figured as though it should be most comparable to that signing because it was done on our board. Thanks to members of the TAB for their time.

It says 17.4 Fpts. And also, I wasnt comparing him to Letang, I was comparing the contracts because Letang is much better

yeah but compare players in his league.... Not ones far superior because if you are to include letang you should include players near letang like Weber Lidstrom etc. Stick with guys near his level, or information can become skewed. Look at 2010-2011 stats then compare

See this was my problem with the Karlsson contract. Why did everyone approve of that when its clear Karlsson is the better player and he is going to improve? It honestly frustrates me that people are bashing on it, when I said that Karlsson should be at the 4.5 - 5 mill range everyone was like no no its fine and everyone agreed to extend his contract at 4 million which I MYSELF did not approve up, but then I thought because Karlsson is better than Johnson, why not just do the same thing but drop it a bit? I honestly dont understand the problem, and its pissing me off that the Karlsson contract got passed so quickly and mine is in a rut.

lol that one is far reasonable, yours is borderline. And when sens made his (making a borderline offer), he proposed stats. Dont do it I wont vote, others might.

see devils how stats can be to your advantage when a player could easily fetch more money? The reason the stewart one did not need stats is because a second line right winger usually gets less then 4.5 mil. In other words the Jets GM is at bear minimum paying fair value while in Johnsons case it could be under payment. Thanks Avs for doing this, it just gives everyone a bigger picture.
Johnson is really in the same boat as Karlsson Devils is right. He can be one of the top D men in the league one day. Johnson has more upside in my opinion then Karlsson because he is bigger and can play much better defensively. Johnson is excelling right now being the key man in Colorado and will likely continue to grow with the team. Colorado is another interesting team, off to an amazing start but can they keep it up? Varlamov has major injury problems and every leaf fan can vouch by saying although Giguere can put up solid numbers as a back up he really struggles as the starter with an average D in front of him. It will be interesting to see how the Avs fair through the rigors of the regular season.
I approve (2-0)
And to people please do not use Letang as an example for future reference when comparing D stats. As Canucks has pointed out he is an outlier in the determination of players salary. He is a beast, and if he were to be a UFA this year he would be looking at the 6 mil range. His stats will not be used for any decision, also try to look and see if you are getting UFA years because UFA years generally raise the price of the contract. Players are said to be entering there "prime" at 27, I feel that is a little old and that players now are so good at much younger ages.
