The Carolina Hurricanes would like to extend Defenseman Dennis Wideman.
With Lidstrom retiring the Hurricanes need another solid defenseman on the blue line while the younger players continue to develop.
The Hurricanes are offering Wideman a 2 year contract at 4.3 million per year. This is a slight raise over his last contract, which had a cap hit of 3.9375 million.
Wideman finished the year off with 178.5 fp, 2.18 fp/game and placed 15th among defensemen in fantasy points. He had a good year with 46 points, but has a career -39 with a -8 last year. The Hurricanes would like to see if he can keep his play up before offering a long term deal.
A few comparables around the same age:
Bieksa - 196.5 - 4.6 million Girardi - 174.2 - 3.325 million Kronwall - 176.5 - 3 million Hamhuis - 173.9 - 4.5 million
