The Ducks would like to extend Tuukka Rask (BOS - G) to a 4 year (2015-2016) UFA contract worth $2,250,000 per year.
Rask is a backup goalie who cannot be compared to other back up goalies, and still cannot be considered a starter. It is tough to put a price on a him. Still no guarentee. But here are some Top young goalies in the league who are starters for comparison.
Tuukka Rask Age 24 - ($1,250,000) 244.5 points projected. One great season, still #2 goalie.
Semyon Varlamov Age 23 - ($2,833,333) 3 years. 378.25 fan pts projected. Most recent signing, from back up to a starter. Very similar situation Rasks is. Except Varlamov is younger, and Rask is not the starter. And no gaurantee he will be.
Steve Mason Age 23 - ($2,900,000) 404.75 pts projected. Been a starter for a while, younger with good potential.
Jonathan Quick Age 25 - ($1,800,000) 431.75 fan points projected. Been a starter for a while, also young with good potential.
James Reimer Age 23 - ($1,800,000) 381 fan pts projected. New recent contract, starter who is also younger with good potential.
Anaheim feels that Rask is a good goalie, with great potential. He also needs to earn a Salary accordingly while he proves himself as a starter, as we hope and plan for him to be. We plan on resigning Rask after the four years as he is the future goalie of this organization, and will get paid accordingly when he reaches that plateau of his career. Anaheim does not want to seem 'cheap', or like we're trying to pull one over. Anaheim is offering fair market value in comparison to players of similar age and Calibre, who are starters.
